Artist Statement

At the moment between sundown and darkness or sunrise and the light of the day there is a transformative spirit of place which I try to capture in my paintings. I have focused on Florida’s big skies, multi-colored layers of cloud, land, and water to create my vision. In the natural beauty of the landscape I recognize a spiritual power and vanishing purity.

In the last year I have been drawn to other sides of Florida, crowded beaches as well as scenes of downtown Orlando. My intention is to convey and capture moments of time and place focusing on the atmospheric quality, emotion and psyche emphasized by a Neo-Impressionistic painting style and expressionistic color palette.

Education experience includes a MED in Secondary Education, Continuing Graduate Study in painting, drawing and art history from Parsons School of Design: Paris France and Cortona Italy, and a BFA in printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art.

Paintings have been displayed in group exhibits and one person shows throughout the New England and Central Florida areas. Work is in private collections throughout the United States. Commissioned portraits in oil, acrylic or pastel are available. Contact Comma gallery directly or send email to dnfr2@netzero.com
